My friends dad has a problem with smoking and drinking. also he is a dentist!! ewwwww! so she asked me if i could post it so i said sure cause that is what friends do! so if you even experienced it or know about it, please let me know!

I quit smoking cold-turkey in 1989 after smoking 25 yrs. When I wanted a cigarette, I just breathed deeply, told myself this urge would pass & that I wanted to be healthy more than I wanted the cigarette. It worked for me.
Is he an alcoholic? If not, I would suggest he get the smoking thing under control before tackling the drinking. But if he is, he should tackle both at the same time. Drinking & smoking seem to go hand in hand. He should join support groups.
But he won’t stop because someone asks him to – even if it’s someone he loves most. It’s not that he wouldn’t want to but until he makes the decision for HIMSELF & no one else, it won’t work.
Your friend should go to Al-anon.
